How to Build a DIY Bike Stand | FixThisBuildThat

Bike commuters understand the headache of always having to ensure a spot for their ride. Libraries and schools are often great for having stands for two wheelers, other places not so much. But as annoying as it can be to find a tree, or other substitute, to which to lock your bike, the problem is even more tiresome at home. What to do with the bike has led to many unusual solutions, even hanging it on the wall. Even if you have a designated spot, like a garage, it’s likely the bike will get toppled not once, but often, risking damage as well as costly repair and replacement bills. So maybe its time to treat home like the local library and build the two-wheel drivers a stand to ensure their mounts stay upright and also safe. A good idea, and also a DIY job for home crafty types. Get the width of the front tires for proper spacing. You will need a cordless, drill/hammer/driver to fasten it all together once all the needed wood is assembled. Since the goal is to have the bike tire rest inside a channel, you will need boards specifically sized too create a crosswise design two of hem longer and two of them notably shorter. There will be a variance of about 4 inches. The smaller boards will cross the longer ones at either end. It isn’t essential, but for further security you can drill a hold through a longer board and pound in a stake.

Key Takeaways:

  • I began with scrap 2x4s and cut them with a Dewalt circular saw.
  • I measured the width of the bikes’ front tires to determine the necessary spacing.
  • A Dewalt Cordless Hammer Drill/Driver was used to screw the wood pieces together.

“I like to say you gotta have the right tool for the job, which means my kids need the right tool to store their bikes. That’s why I built a super simple (and hopefully really effective) DIY Bike Stand for each of them. Fingers crossed.”
